My thoughts on the last class session
It appears that the reason why there are church buildings over the West is because of Constantine, or when Christianity became the state religion. This made me think a lot about if it’s even right to build churches. Are there any biblical mandates to use many resources into building a structure where believers come to worship? Or can such resources be concentrated on aiding the marginalized, the poor, and the oppressed as the Early Church did? Speaking of the Early Church, facing persecution must have been a significant influence in their identity as a Christian. Is Christianity still able to thrive when it becomes the masses’ religion? Also, I never really thought much about the church outside of western Christianity. The trend that non-west Christianity is getting larger than Christianity in the west is a big deal! I’m very curious what Christianity in these parts of the world is like: practices, theology, and how they have fellowship.
